DOGWOOD RESIDENCE

Irvington, New York

The client’s background in filmmaking left them longing for a Hollywood-like hillside home. The steeply sloped rocky site, one of the few undeveloped site in this area of Westchester County dictated many of the design decisions. A spine-like stair connects the uppermost living level to the mid level bedrooms and finally to the family room and south facing down-slope yard. The top level includes a loft-inspired living area with clerestory windows, exposed steel structure and polished concrete floors, an open dining area, a custom walnut kitchen and access to ample terrace spaces which enjoy long views toward the Hudson River. The pergola above the south terrace is constructed of semi-transparent photovoltaic cells which provide passive solar shading to the south facing windows while producing electricity.
